What is a hybrid athlete?

Simply put, a hybrid athlete trains for both strength and endurance.

To train like a hybrid athlete, you’re looking at a steady rotation of strength training, endurance training, agility work, and skill-specific drills each week. One day you’re on the squat rack and the next you may be running sprints at your local high school track. The focus of a hybrid athlete’s training will vary depending on specific goals and the sports or competitions they are training for.

For example, a hybrid athlete training for a marathon will prioritize running four to five days each week, making sure to bang out a long run each weekend. Additionally, they’re strength training throughout the week to target specific muscle groups. To avoid injury and improve form, they’re mixing in regular agility work as well.

No one said it would be easy!

Other hybrid athletes might be training for boxing matches or body building competitions. Again, the training regimen will vary based on the demands of their sport; however, a hybrid athlete’s training will always maintain a well-rounded approach, avoiding over-training in one area and neglecting another.

Who says marathoners can’t be meatheads? Or vice versa!?
